Facilitator: Carrie Jones
Creative Courage For Life Teacher Award Winner 2018-19
I have taught drama for two inspirational Principals in Newbury over the past twenty two years and I’ve been privileged in that time to work with hundreds of equally inspirational students. Receiving the Teacher of Excellence award for doing something I love, meant a lot to me, a special moment to treasure. Encouraging a student’s natural instinct to create and play is one of the reasons I’m still teaching and why I’ve chosen to explore with you some of the ways I shape that innate instinct when we are devising.
Facilitator: Jo Howson
Stagecoach Education Programme Development and Training Manager
Jo Howson was Head of Drama of at a school in East London for a number of years and holds over 10 years of teaching experience. She has won the national GTC Teacher award for Excellence in Professional Development and the Jack Petchy Award for Outstanding Service to Young People. She holds Qualified Teacher Status, a Distinction from a Masters Degree course in Performance Research from Central School of Speech and Drama and a First Class Degree in Literature and Theatre Studies from the University of Warwick. Jo is passionate about teaching that helps students realise the value of their own creativity. Drama can help challenge students' perceptions about themselves and the world around them and celebrate both the successes and failures in performance, helping the students to grow. She believes outstanding Drama teaching equips students with a joy and confidence that radiates in every role, character or part they play. This can be life-changing!
