The Run to the Castle 2024

Saturday, 17th August 2024 at 8:45am – Doors open at 7:45am
Aberdovey Village Hall

Event description

Run to the Castle will take runners and walkers from the coastal village of Aberdyfi up the beautiful coastal path, taking in the seafront at Tywyn, the village of Fairbourne, the famous Fairborne bridge, Barmouth, to the castle town of Harlech which is approx 42 miles away.

The race will take place on Saturday 17th August 20224 and will start at 8.45 giving runners time to drive to the finish then catch the train to the start if they wish.  Registration & bag drop will be open from 7.45am on race morning for people driving or getting dropped off. ( If social distancing is still in place we may have to do wave starts again which will be from 7am but fingers crossed).

The start is about 200 yards from both Aberdfyi train station and the main car park in the village (LL35 0NR).  There is also a connecting train station in Harlech approx 200yards from the finish (so no need to change, and it takes an hour) as this is a point to point race entrants can get back to the start easily. We will also be transporting one bag per runner from the start to the finish area, so you have dry clean gear afterwards. Once National Rail release next years time table we will put times on here for you, but if they are anything like this years these run every 90-120 minutes

There are lots of different accommodation locally if you wish to extend your stay,  Have a look at this website for more information: https://www.stayinwales.co.uk/?area=southern-snowdonia

The entry fee will include a fully recced course, food and drinks at 4 separate checkpoints, and a finishers medal. Results will be available online after the race.

The course is very well signed, and is a mixture of beach, tracks, and pavements.

The race will be held under Association of Running Clubs rules and a race permit has been granted.

There will be a time limit of 12 hours for the race.

Compulsory kit includes rucksac and bladder or bottle to carry a minimum of 1lt of water, emergency food, a fully charged mobile phone, waterproof jacket (waterproof bottoms in December), whistle, map of the area, and compass. You will also need to carry a 1st aid kit. A collapsable cup.

We will once again host a marathon event where you can run 26.5 miles to Barmouth.

We have been involved in event management for over 16 years working on all race distances from 5K’s right up to Ultra Marathons. We are actively involved in the course build of numerous OCR’s that take place in the UK. When we launched How Hard Can it be Events, we wanted to make running events fun and put on events that we would want to take part in ourselves. That is why we have worked hard to host smaller, friendlier events, where people can relax and get to know people and enjoy the whole running experience. We think this philosophy is what makes us stand out from the crowd.
