Rooftop Film Club

A new weekly night Up on the Roof at The Prince Of Wales in Brixton: a film club with a difference. On our refurbished terrace you can sink into a comfy deckchair, reach for the food and drink of your choice right beside you and watch a first-rate double bill screening.

Double features are a great film night experience. We link two movies together by their cast, director, genre, setting or soundtrack or any other interesting connections. The first film is an obscure, forgotten gem; the second a classic. Come for the first, come for the second or come for both.

Why are we different from a regular cinema night-out?

• The repertoire is diverse and novel
• The surroundings are relaxed, the atmosphere warm, the ambience cool
• Members only (£3 to join)
• Entry is free
• We offer great, fresh food from our seasonal Bratwurst BBQ
• You can enjoy a drink ( check out our delicious hot buttered rum or mulled cider )during the movie
• Audience members can roam

Our opening night celebrates both Brixton and Black History Month. Sure, we could have saluted our local area by showing Marilyn Monroe walking down Brixton Water Lane in the film The Prince and the Showgirl but we can do even better then that. We’ll be screening Black Joy starring Trevor Thomas and Norman Beaton, entirely shot in and around Brixton. Plus, the Franco Rosso 1980s classic, Babylon another south London special. Both films are full of ideas and attitude, with knockout soundtracks. The perfect movies for our premier night.

Future nights:

• A tribute to the A23 – Chaplin night – Modern Times and Chaplin
• David Bowie night – The Man Who Fell to Earth and Into The Night
• Martial Art spectacular – Project A and Kung Fu Hustle
• Rooftop Mayhem – Attack The Block and Die Hard
• Christmas Bonanza – A Christmas Carol and White Christmas
• Christopher Guest tribute – The Mighty Wind and Spinal Tap
• British Mob Movies – A Long Good Friday and Get Carter
• Gene Wilder night – Young Frankenstein and Start the Revolution Without Me
• Prison Break Films – Laurel & Hardy’s Pardon Us and Down By Law
• South London Classics – Passport To Pimlico and Up The Junction
• Western Night – The Salvation and The Man who Shot Liberty Valance
